Austin’s Grizz has been building and crafting his sound for awhile now. The Team Next member has been dropping consistent heat for the last 3 years and gained plenty of notoriety around the area after his 5353 EP dropped at the beginning of 2017. It’s been straight uphill since then, putting out a bevy of singles and solidifying his sound by working with frequent contributor Scoop Jackson, and fellow Texas producer LDevell.

That momentum lead to the release of Texxaco Shawty, the 8 track project hosted by NTRL is chalked full of bass booming street anthems. One thing that always stands out on a Grizz record is the production. Learn it from Grizz, get the best engineering and production money can buy, cause it goes a long way. Texxaco Shawty doesn’t disappoint. Scoop did a masterful job mixing the project, making sure the sound was consistent throughout the 8 tracks.

Grizz has the ability to blend small amounts of auto-tune when he needs it, with hard cutting lyrics that could really fit on any beat. The energy is always high, and it’s incredibly easy to feed off of that when you’re listening. Grizz is a low-key dude, which only adds to the mystique and character, so anytime he drops something you have to listen.

Top Songs

“Skurt” 2 – skr skr skr skr skr skr SKURTTT. Easily my favorite record on the project, the LDevell produced beat is as classic as it gets. Heavy bass and bells with interlaying keys lays a solid foundation for an uptempo Grizz. Also, out of all the “skr skr’s” in rap nowadays Grizz makes his completely original, this chorus is gold.

“Flexas” – After getting the inside scoop on the next project Grizz is dropping (right around the corner) track number 4 is a look into what we’ll be hearing more from Grizz. A nice laid back approach with all the same content matter, this one vibes really well. Scoop Jackson is the best producer in Texas in my opinion, this one doesn’t disappoint. The combo is magic. “Flexas” going to be on repeat for awhile.

I know I only picked 2, but I could legit put the whole tape on the Top Songs list. This is my favorite project from Grizz to date, can’t wait to see the buzz when the next one drops.
