One half of the former NY rap group Ratking, Patrick “Wiki” Morales has long been one of the best wordsmiths in New York, if not the world. After signing a solo deal with XL Recordings, he’s releasing his solo album No Mountains in Manhattan this Friday, and offers us another look into what the album will feel like with a visual/song titled “Mayor”. The Matt Lubansky directed video shows Wiki politicking in a suit around the streets of New York handing out stickers and rapping on doorsteps. Full of energy, and never taking himself too seriously, he shows the same spirit that has made Wiki one of my favorites for years.

Produced by Tony Seltzer, Alex Epton and Rafi Gavron, “Mayor” is classic Wiki. The soul sampled track gives off the vibe that Wiki is staking his claim as NY’s best. Or at least, to be in the discussion. It feels like an old Vic Mensa laced Kids These Days track. It’s youthful, and real, and full of bars.

No Mountains In Manhattan will feature the likes of Ghostface Killa, Your Old Droog, and others. Production will feature Kaytranada, Earl Sweatshirt, and Wiki himself. I can’t wait to hear it. Check out his previous videos for “Pretty Bull” and “Icarus” if you haven’t.
